Oil and filter change

Oil Change in Bloomington, IN

By appointment, we change your oil and filter, check your vehicle, and tell you what needs attention now and what can wait.

Is it time?

Find your situation first

Your manufacturer’s interval and your driving both matter. Pick the closest match.

Book a time

“My reminder light is on, or I’m near the interval.”

Book a time for sometime soon. We use the oil and filter your manufacturer specifies.

Book this week

“I’m past the interval, or can’t remember my last change.”

Bring it in this week. We check the oil and tell you if anything else needs a look.

Stop and call us

“My oil light is on, or I see smoke or a leak.”

Stop driving when it is safe and call us. Low oil can damage an engine quickly.

Signs you need it

What drivers say they notice

Six things people say when they call. Each links to a post that explains it.

“My oil change reminder came on”

Often your vehicle telling you the interval has arrived.

“The engine sounds louder”

Possibly worn oil leaving moving parts under-protected.

“I can’t remember my last change”

Could be overdue; we check the oil and work out where you stand.

“I mostly drive short trips”

Often short trips and stop-and-go driving are harder on oil.

“The oil looks dark or gritty”

Sometimes dark oil is normal, but gritty oil may mean a change is overdue.

“My oil light came on”

Could be low oil level or pressure, so treat it as urgent and call us.

First of all These guys rock. I got to talk to Rick and Mark. The full inspection they do is top notch. I went in for oil leak and coolant issues. If something is wrong they will find it. Pay Cash or check get discounted rate. Second of all my truck runs better now than when I bought it. Overall hard to find a place as thorough and honest as Mason Automotive. I got a few more things for them to take care of down the road but engine and thermostat are working beautifully. I highly recommend them over anyone else in town. Keep up the great work fellas!

This was a great experience. Just general oil change. However, the first experience I had with Mason Automotive was why I went for this why I’ll continue to go to them. I told them over the phone my issue. Ended up that they diagnosed it perfectly and had the presence of mind as well as knowledge to know my issue could be dealt with under warranty, at another place! They didn’t have me come in to tell me that or charge me or anything. Just straight shooting quality guidance.

I have been consistently impressed with both the knowledge and professionalism of the staff at Mason Automotive. They have done a top job of whatever is being done, be it an oil change or more complex and extensive repairs. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking to find a reliable honest automotive mechanic service. Roger Poland

Friendly, thorough, respectful, and affordable. As a woman who knows just enough about cars to have a good idea of when a place is being honest and fair, I was very pleased with my experience with Mason Automotive. My Toyota is 17 years old, and in addition to an oil change, I requested the service where they look things over from top to bottom. They listed all things recommended while providing a timeline of when they felt the services should be performed; nothing was presented as an urgent need in my case. For the services that I declined at this time, they weren't pushy and even gave additional advice for the more simple ones that I plan to do myself (e.g. they recommended replacing at least the rod and bolt on the battery housing while replacing the battery, to keep things stable). Since they replaced a gasket and plugs, they asked if I minded if they kept it until morning to test drive it a little to ensure there were no additional problems. Not only was the total cost reasonable, but my car is running so smoothly! I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

Staff is very knowledgeable and fair. I’d taken my Jeep Wrangler in for a Jasper rebuild engine, clutch, tires and rear brakes in August of 2024. Engine runs great, and I take it back for the oil changes as to keep up on the warranty on the engine. In March of 2025 a part had failed in the clutch assembly and warranted a used replacement transmission. I’ve had a very good experience with these folks and highly recommend their services.

Jared and his staff at Mason Automotive are the best. Always on time, and provide all repairs and service at a very affordable price. They handle everything for me from oil changes, to tires, to various repairs as needed. Great people and I highly recommend them.

FAQs

Frequently
Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for an oil change?

Yes. Every oil change Bloomington IN drivers book with us is scheduled, which means your vehicle gets the time it needs and we get a proper look at it. Book online or give us a call. If your oil light is on or there is a leak, call first before you drive it in.

How often should I change my oil?

The owner’s manual is a better guide than the old 3,000-mile rule. Your driving, your oil type, and your vehicle all shift the interval. Not sure where yours lands? Tell us your mileage and how you drive and we will give you a straight answer. Our guide to the 3,000-mile myth has the full rundown.

Will you check anything else while it is here?

Yes. Fluids, tires, belts, lights, all get a look. You get the list of what needs attention now and what can wait. Extra work never happens without your yes, and findings go on paper so you can think it over in your own time.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Your vehicle and the current mileage. A rough date for your last change helps if you remember it. Noticed anything since the last visit? A noise, a smell, a warning light? Worth telling us at drop-off. We take it from there.

Will I know what it costs before you start?

Yes. The check comes first, then you see the findings with a cost next to each item. Nothing is repaired until you see the written estimate and sign off. Need a second set of eyes on it? Forward the estimate to a parent or partner before you give the go-ahead.

What happens if you find something else that needs attention?

Straight talk about what we saw. What it is, why it matters, what happens if it waits. The list sorts into urgent and can-wait. You pick what gets approved. Nothing extra gets done without your yes.
